The Nashville Fiction Workshop is a writing seminar where new and experienced fiction writers can gain experience, refine the tools of the trade, and meet and engage with other area fiction writers. We believe the workshop will be a positive experience for everyone involved and we are confident that the workshop participants will make new strides as we celebrate the art of fiction together.
As fiction writers at two Nashville area universities, we noticed few opportunities for fiction writers to learn from other writers and to have their individual talents fostered. The Nashville Fiction Workshop is a welcoming community for serious writers. We are running the workshops out of our home in our spare time with the intention of giving writers a space to grow. We believe in the workshop process and we are excited about the possibilities of expanding the Nashville Fiction Workshop as we become a part of the vibrant Nashville arts community.
The workshop method, made famous at The Iowa Writer's Workshop, and used in graduate and undergraduate writing programs at universities throughout the country, is an engaging and fun way to learn the "golden rules" of storytelling and to get valuable feedback on story drafts or novel chapters from fellow writers. We encourage a respectful but honest forum and we invite fiction writers of all ages and talent levels to apply.
Classes meet in the afternoons for 2 1/2 hour sessions, once per week, for six weeks with a break in the middle. Workshop participants are expected to be present and prepared for each class, since active participation from every member is essential to the workshop process. The atmosphere is informal--we're laid-back people who try not to take ourselves too seriously. But we are dead serious about fiction.
